Recycling Cardboard and Paper
Carnegie Mellon recycles corrugated, un-waxed cardboard. Please collapse cardboard and place it next to your paper recyclables or in an area where custodians will see it. You can also place cardboard in the cardboard compactor behind Roberts Hall. Students can place cardboard in the recycling dumpsters located outside most residents halls.

- Brown/golden kraft paper envelopes*
*(These are the golden envelopes we are sending/receiving our Campus Mail in. The paper is a Kraft type of paper. This is NOT to be recycled in our program. This paper contains a high amount of wood fibers which need special processing. There's a catch though - they are made from recycled materials which is a good thing. Please don't confuse this paper with manila folders: they are okay to recycle, but you should reuse them.)
Note: Metal staples and paper clips do not have to be removed, although paper clips are reusable.
You should locate containers for paper recycling near copiers, printers, and other areas where large volumes of waste paper are generated. If you need additional containers, perhaps this is a sign that you need to curtail paper use. If you cannot avoid the paper waste and still need additional containers.
